Since Halloween is right around the corner, I thought I’d put together a nice list of my top 10 scariest animals.
So let’s just get to it.
10. Really Scary Cat
Forget about the black cat. This kitty is 10 times creepier.
9. Sam: The Ugliest Dog (RIP)
The Late Sam (RIP), a 14-year-old Chinese crested hairless who held the official title for, “The World’s Ugliest Dog” for the 3 years in a row at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif. Sam was so ugly, that at times he was mistaken for everything from a space alien to a burn victim. Poor little guy.
8. The Hyena
How would you like to run into this hyena and his friends? This gives me the creeps. Look at his tongue! Yuck!
7. The Possum
I grew up in the south, so I’ve seen my share of possums (mostly flattened on the pavement). Once one got into our back yard and was just going nuts. Hissing and growling. We called the animal control (dog catcher), and a guy came with this 10 foot pole with a wire noose at the end. That possum was fierce, his teeth thrashing, making some wild sounds, and fighting like crazy…It was all the dog catcher could do to get that thing in the cage.
Come on now. An animal that hangs from trees by it’s tail, has opposable thumbs on it’s feet, crazy sharp teeth, and a pouch. That’s just scary.
6. The Wolf
The wolf. Look at those teeth! Enough said.
5. The Crow
Crows are scary. Why? Because they are so smart. Crows are in an group of animals, including chimpanzees and a few other birds, that can actually make and use tools.
This is a video of a crow bending a straight piece of wire into a hook to retrieve food from a tube.
4. The Vampire Bat
Ah yes. The old vampire bat. The vampire bats use sharp teeth, to make tiny cuts in the skin of a sleeping animal (or you tonight when you are sleeping… Muah ha ha ha). The bats’ saliva contains a special chemical that keeps the blood from coagulating and clotting. The bats then feast on the blood that oozes from the wound. The bats secrete a 2nd chemical in their saliva numbs the animal’s skin and keeps them from waking up.
3. The Centipede
If any of you live in warm and humid climates, then you know how gross the American cockroach is. Well add a hundred more legs, make it way long and slimy, and give it the ability to inflict an extremely painful bite and you have a centipede.
just what kind of damage a centipede can do
2. The Botfly Larvae
The botfly looks harmless enough, but don’t be fooled. It is truly terrifying creature. The botfly above is in the larval state. These larvae mature inside flesh. How do they get into your flesh? An egg-laden female botfly captures a female mosquito and glues her eggs on to it. When the mosquito is released and bites a victim, the host’s body heat triggers an egg to hatch. It falls off and burrows into a follicle. The larva then secures itself with two anal hooks making it extremely painful to remove. A small mound forms, which if left unchecked, will grow to the size of a fist. There was a video on YouTube, but it was removed due to the sheer nastiness of it.
Here’s a link to some more pictures of botflys (Warning: this is not pretty stuff)
Found the video. Thanks Len:
1. The Goat
The goat actually has two different faces. One is kind of playful and cute little billie goat who nibbles on your pants… and the other is a symbol of pure evil.
Just look at this thing!
“I am evil!… baa-a-a-a..”
I sense that some of you may have doubts as to just how scary a goat can be. I thought that this might happen. Let me assure you that if you don’t already agree that the Goat is the scariest animal ever, you will after seeing the video below.
