Life Simulation Models (maybe NSFW)

I happened to come across a very interesting company the other day, one that manufactures life simulation models. I have seen all kinds of simulators before, from airplanes to video games, but this is the first time I find out that simulators of this kind exist. I’m not sure how new or popular they are, but I find some of them bizarrely funny (hey, I’m not a medical student, I’m still afraid of needles and just thinking of blood makes me sick).
Koken is a Japanese based company that develops lifelike simulation models for medical training. If you are offended by naked people or the thought of naked dummies in labor or other graphical positions, exit here.
Some of the models that caught my attention:
The Feces Removal Training model (I had to start with this one)
This model simulates patients who are having difficulty going to the bathroom by themselves. The removal of simulated feces can be practiced by digital insertion. The trainee inserts the attached simulated feces into the intestines and removes it from the anus with proper technique (it’s all about technique people).

The results upon closer inspection and proper technique:

What comes with your kit: Main body (1 piece), Enemator (1 piece), Drainage tube (1 piece), Intestine cap (1 piece), Sheet-with base (1 piece), Feces Set-soft 15g, hard 2 pcs (1 set). Spares: Simulated Feces Set: soft 150g, hard 2 pcs. (Wiping your extra large Ken’s butt: Priceless!).
The Full-Body Pregnancy Simulator
Available models: Full-Body Manikin, Abdominal Palpation Model, Vaginal Examination Model, Delivery model set, Episiotomy Sutures Model (ouch!), Puerperal Uterus Set.

“By changing positions…the fetal model can be rotated according to each position giving several positions for delivery practice.”

…are you thinking what I’m thinking?
The Breast Massage Model
“The model is made of a soft and flexible silicone material, which simulates tight breasts and the movement of the base of the breasts to be clearly felt.”

Model details: The skin is extremely soft and flexible as it is made from a special silicone material. The model represents the tight breast of a puerperal woman and includes the movement of the base of the breasts.
The Age Simulation Set
This one is intended to demonstrate the inconveniences felt by elder people due to “musculoskeletal”, visual and auditory aging. Elder Goggles (with carrying case):
Goggles for experiencing the change in vision due to cataracts in the aged (older than about 80 years). Other devices available: Ear plugs (restricts hearing), Back protector (restricts the posture), Restrictors for fingers, Restrictors for the elbows, Gloves (restricts touch), Weights for the wrists, Walking stick, Knee Restrictor, Weights for the ankles.
Injection and Blood Sampling Model
This limb features synthetic skin that is remarkably similar to human skin. Needle insertion provides a feeling similar to that offered by a real human arm.

What’s not included: the sweat and fear of a guy like me in a situation like this (in other words, the arm can not faint).
The New Born Baby Model
“Made of special silicone rubber with the appearance and texture of real skin. It gives the trainee the sense of handling a real baby and is perfectly suited for learning infant handling.”

Hey, how about babysitting your niece or friends baby for a while? I’m sure the parents will appreciate it.

The Rat Model (Animal Experiment Training Models)
Huh, a rat model?
The description of this one says: “When an inexperienced laboratory animal handler holds a rat for the first time , there is a risk that the handler may be bitten or may accidentally drop the animal. Therefore, Koken has developed the Koken Rat as a training tool.”
I’m sure the thousands of “laboratory animal handlers” around the world can’t wait to get their hands on this one.
Other models worth mentioning:
-Glutear Intramuscular Injection (or the butt injector)
-Female Organ Model
-Vulva for Obstetric Model
-Male Catheter Model
-Maternity Simulation Jacket
